There is a trannyboy sailor in my bedroom,
All round blue eyed with long dark lashes,
Strong chin and wide lips,
Peeking at me shyly.
He wears a navy middy,
And beneath it is his heart,
An organ wrapped in music,
His beating heart sings “You Go To My Head”,
And I get all teary-eyed listening,
To his sighs and pleas.
He whispers in my ear,
“You intoxicate my soul with your eyes”,
It is enough to make me spread my legs,
To let the seafaring world in,
There are angels and baby birds,
A sailor cap on his head,
My robe is covered in spades,
I have a halo of wings,
And I touch his face lightly,
My palm resting, open on his tender cheek,
Lean in for a kiss,
Kissing my trannyboy sailor.
Our Lady of the Trannyboy Sailor – collage by Carol Queen
What a gorgeous poem. He is a picture, perfect and yet still real and warm. Effortless craft, magical poem.

Thank you, Paul. I wrote this very quickly last night, and almost took it down this morning because it seemed too un-edited. The collage that inspired the poem was made by Carol Queen. It is so beautiful!

I like it un-edited. Or like it is. Speed should be considered irrelevant in judging a poem’s quality I think. Sexuality is a big theme in any serious poet’s work, I think, and I admire your uncompromising commitment to honesty combined with your obvious skill, technical and in every way. The collage is beautiful. And so is your poetry, both in its intent and in its execution.
